Reason for Policy 

The following policy is intended to ensure full regulatory compliance with all U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) rules and regulations governing the shipment of hazardous materials and dangerous goods.

 

Procedures

All shipments of hazardous materials / dangerous goods must be coordinated through the Environmental Safety Division by contacting the Hazardous Materials Program:

Policy Definitions

Hazardous Material / Dangerous Goods: Hazardous materials and dangerous goods include those materials which may pose a threat to human health, public safety or the environment if released during the course of transportation. Examples include but are not limited to explosives, gasses, flammable liquids, flammable solids, oxidizers, toxic substances, radioactive materials, corrosives and miscellaneous substances.

 

Record Retention

All hazardous materials / dangerous goods shipping records are maintained by the Environmental Safety Division – Hazardous Materials Program in accordance with the Board of Regents Record Retention Policy
