There is no formal policy statement for this topic however procedures and other information are provided below.

For all new laboratory construction and renovation plans prior to construction, The University of Georgia should ensure that all responsible parties including, but not limited to, the Physical Plant Division, the University Architects for Facilities Planning, and ESD shall work together to ensure compliance with the Board of Regents Design Criteria for Laboratories. 

 

Reason for Policy 

To ensure that all University of Georgia renovation or new construction of laboratory facilities project plans are thoroughly reviewed prior to construction and throughout all phases of the project by all responsible parties including, but not limited to, the Physical Plant Division, the University Architects for Facilities Planning, and the Environmental Safety Division (ESD) to ensure compliance with the Board of Regents Design Criteria for Laboratories.

 

Procedures

The Board of Regents’ ‘Design Criteria (DC) for Laboratories’ ( http://www.usg.edu/ehs/guidelines/lab_design/ )establishes minimum design requirements for laboratory furniture, fume hoods, and safety devices to provide a safe work environment and prevent undesirable exposures to chemical contaminants among students, faculty, and staff in University System of Georgia (USG) laboratories.

Record Retention

All records for renovation or new construction of laboratory facilities projects, including notifications or correspondence with regulatory agencies, are to be kept a minimum of one year or an appropriate period of time to support issues resolutions.
