Policy Statement

The UGA Police Department is dedicated to working with the campus community in providing a safe environment for all students, faculty, staff and visitors. In achieving this goal, the UGA Police Department is committed to providing 24-hour public safety services, and is available for calls for service at any time to include non-business hours, weekends, and holidays.

Reason for Policy

The purpose of this policy is to communicate the available means for which the UGA Police Department may be contacted for general inquiries, in reporting crimes, requesting programs, and in obtaining reports.

Procedures

Dial 911 for emergencies. For non-emergencies, the UGA Police Department’s Communications Division (Dispatch) can be contacted at (706) 542-2200 (TTY 706-542-1188 for hearing impaired callers) 24 hours a day for reporting a crime, reporting suspicious activity, or for general assistance. Communications personnel are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist with a variety of occurrences. Sworn police officers will be sent to meet with the caller at the caller’s request or if the facts surrounding an incident warrant additional law enforcement investigation and follow up.

Members of the public are also welcome to visit the UGA Police Department at the Hodgson Oil Building to meet with police personnel. The University of Georgia Police Department’s address is 286 Oconee Street, Athens, GA 30602.
