    Policy Statement

    University Food Services is a self-supporting operating unit of Auxiliary Services.  Food Services’ mission is to provide meal plan service to all students, and to operate retail locations to service faculty, staff and university visitors.  Like all units of Auxiliary Services, Food Services derives its authority to operate from University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents policy 7.2.2.

    Food Services receives no state or federal funding for its operations, and participation is entirely voluntary.  Food service fees are set by the department and must be approved by the Office of the President of the University of Georgia.

    1. How do meal plans work?
      • Meal plans are available to students, faculty or staff members of the University of Georgia, as well as university program participants.  Three types of meal plans are currently offered: unlimited, commuter block and a faculty/staff plans.  Meal plans are a contract between Food Services and the patron.  The contract covers such things as service dates, penalties for unauthorized use of the plan, and early cancellation.  For more information, please see the policies page on the Food Services website, linked to in the “Related Information” section below.
    2. How does Food Services operate during inclement weather?
      • The meal plan dining centers will provide meal plan service even when the University closes for inclement weather conditions.  Dining centers may have modified operating hours on these days however.  Food Service retail operations are closed when the University is closed for inclement weather.
    3. How are Service Animals accommodated?
      • Food Services has developed guidelines to supplement UGA’s Service Animal Policy.  A link to the details of the guidelines may be found in the “Related Information” section.  The supplementary guidelines were developed in conjunction with the UGA Environmental Safety Division, and are designed to provide Food Services’ customers with the quality products and services they expect in the safe and sanitary environment they deserve.  Additionally, these guidelines were established to keep facilities in compliance with the State of Georgia Rules and Regulations governing Food Service (290-5-14), which are enforced by the Clarke County Health Department.  Full details on the Food Services’ service animal policy may be found on the division’s website, which is linked in the “Related Information” section below.
